Mind telling us what magazine?
So we can avoid it.
You come to a fundamentally different kind of game. It shocks you because there's aspects of it that are not anything like games you've dealt with in the past. You are out of your comfort zone because that comfort zone has been defined by softer, more friendly games.
So what is your reaction? To insist that this game changes to meet what you define as acceptable. It doesn't even occur to you that perhaps you should change the way you think about things. It doesn't occur to you that perhaps you should throw out your definitions of fair and nice and start thinking like a wolf instead of a sheep. A sheep that crosses it's arms and stubbornly demands that the wolves be nerfed so he can play the way he wants.
But, let's take a step back for a moment. Let's seperate you from Eve and analyze things a bit less personal. When I joined this game in 2006, one of the first things I did was read the forums like a madman trying to smarten up about the game environment. Amazingly enough, one of the first things I came across was about hisec ganking. "How lame and unfair it was", cried the poster. Many other posters argued the topic back and forth, but one old timer that had been around since 2003 weighed in with, "hisec ganks have always been there. It's just something to be aware of, not nerf".
Spin forward to today. 2008 and the playerbase has grown nearly double it's size since early 2006. Now let's try and be a bit logical about the situation. If the gameplay mechanics you are arguing against have been around since the game's release, but yet the playerbase keeps growing... perhaps your predictions of, "It will destroy eve in the long run." are just plain wrong.
Try changing the way you think before demanding that the game changes to suit you. Some of us enjoy the challenge that our fellow players provide us. We DO NOT WANT WoW style challenges who's pinacle of fun is having your avatar tossed in the air every 3 seconds by some stupid NPC. We WANT hard mode. We WANT unfair.
That's what makes getting past that gate camp rewarding. That's what makes dodging those suicide gankers a, "Yes! I beat them" situation. That's what makes hauling a bil+ of goods to some lowsec market you're trying to shephard an OMG-heartpounding thrill ride. Not just another ho hum, "I made the donuts" grind fest. That's what makes Eve special. Other players and their evilly clever ways of interacting with you when you are least expecting it. Stupid NPCs are not fun. Predictable is not fun. Only other humans can bring that to a game.
But what you wrote basically reads, "I want to nerf what is fun about Eve. I want to make Eve like every other MMO out there".
You don't have to be the wolf if that's not how you like to play. But you should at least think like one to survive in Eve. What you are asking for is to not have to think at all...
How is that fun?
As to your idle threat that some of this will be in some magazine... I think all you'll get is a big, "so what?". You pretty much come off just like every other noob that has made bad assumptions about the game they were playing and then cried about it on the forum. If that is worth printing, it says quite a bit about that particular magazine.

Redefine your expectations. Throw out your old assumptions. Give it another think and perhaps try the game from a different angle before you run around shouting nerf.
But of course now you're just reading my sig... |
